How to stop, and what happens when you do.
There is no contract to get out of. This page says how to cancel, when the billing actually stops, and what happens to your site, your content and your domain name afterward. No part of it is hidden anywhere else.
No contract, no minimum term
The monthly plan has nothing to sign. There is no minimum number of months, no notice period you have to serve, and no cancellation fee. You can stop in your first month or your fifth year and the process is the same either way.
How to cancel
Send one email to harry@northlanewebstudio.com and say you want to cancel. That is the whole process. You do not have to give a reason, fill out a form, or talk to anyone.
We reply by email, usually within a day or two, to confirm the date your billing stops and the date the site comes down, so you have both in writing. If you do not hear anything, email again, because it means we did not receive the first one.
When the monthly plan stops
Canceling stops the $97 a month plan at the end of the billing month you are currently in. You are not charged again after that.
You keep everything you are paying for until that date. The site stays up, changes still get made, and the articles for that month still get written. You paid for the month, so you get the month.
The website fee
The website fee, $899 for Starter or $1,499 for Pro, is paid once, when you have approved your mock and want the site built. It is not refunded, and neither is a month already paid for. That is why you see a free mock of your website before you pay anything.
What happens to your website
The site stays online and maintained until the end of the period you have paid for. After that date we stop hosting it and it comes down.
Ask us and we will send you an export of your content: the text of every page, every article we wrote for you, and any photos you gave us. There is no charge for it and no deadline to ask. That material is yours.
What we cannot hand over is the site running as-is on someone else’s hosting. It is built on our setup, and moving it is a rebuild rather than a file transfer. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out in the week you leave.
What happens to your domain name
If the domain was already yours when you started, it stays yours. We never take ownership of it and nothing we do affects your control of it. Cancel and it is simply pointed somewhere else, by you, whenever you like.
If we registered a new domain on your behalf, it is still yours. Ask and we transfer it into your own account at no charge. We will not hold a domain to keep you as a client.
Coming back
If you cancel and later want the site back, email us. If it is recent we can usually put the same site back up and restart the plan at whatever the current price is. We do not charge a fee to restart.
Questions before you start
If you are reading this before signing up, that is the right order to do it in. Anything here that is unclear, email harry@northlanewebstudio.com and ask. You will get a plain answer from a person.
The full terms are in our Terms of Service, and how we handle your details is in our Privacy Policy.
Then start with the free mock.
We build a mock website of your actual business before you pay anything, and you decide from there. Reading the exit terms first is a reasonable way to shop.
